Pottery - Handbuilding and surfaces

January 9 - February 5
In this five-week class, projects and demonstrations will be presented in each class to demonstrate the huge range of possibilities when making both functional and non-functional work. Learning the basics of handbuilding (coil, slab and pinch construction) and surface decoration are the main elements for these classes. You will make beautiful functional pottery and decorative tiles while exploring surface decoration through glaze layering, image transfer and resist techniques. Weekly demonstrations will guide the projects, but students are encouraged to bring their ideas to the class. Four weeks of construction, last week is reserved for glazing.
Youth Handbuilding I
January 4-Feb. 1
Youth hand-building pottery class for ages 11-17. 5 weeks on Thursdays 5-7 pm. $125 We will be making both functional and sculptural pieces as well as exploring surface options. Learning or expanding upon basic construction techniques: slab, pinch, coil and extruding, the young artist will create four projects that will give them the opportunity to try different surface applications, we will even explore image transfer. Wheel Pottery Class - Beginner
Dates and times to be agreed upon with instructor and student
4 weeks - additional time for glazing
Learn how to throw on the wheel with one on one instruction. You will learn the basics of throwing - clay preparation, centering, making cylinders and bowls. Class is two hours per week of personal instruction, and up to two additional hours of practice per week. You get 25 pounds of clay, use of studio tools, and firing and glazing up to twelve items.
